Kevin Chapman Art Studio

KEVIN CHAPMAN is in love with paint. He is a diverse artist painting in a thought-provoking manner. Landscapes, though non-site specific are roughly based on observations of place and memory. Expressive abstracts and abstraction run parallel with suggestive realism. The figure is pushed and prodded around some compositions to merge into the painting with the edges of such an important factor. Despite this, there is a coherence to his work. Large brush mark making, allied with an interweave of various tightly controlled methods of application, all in the love of paint and surface.

Always experimenting, Chapman works directly on the surface with no preparatory drawings, the end result emerging from paint and mark teasing intimating the possibilities of content. Altering and reworking using mainly acrylics with acrylic mediums, spray paints and collage works can move between abstract and suggestive figurative several times before some sort of full stop is achieved.
